Victoria
Registration Discount

Registration discounts of up to $100 per year are available for light zero and low emission vehicles (ZLEVs). 

High Court rules against Victoria's Electric car tax!

Additionally, in October 2023, The High Court declared that the State distance-based tax on electric and hybrid vehicles was unconstitutional, meaning drivers can expect lower registration bills and potential refunds for those who already paid the tax.

Queensland

Rebates are now available to eligible Queensland individuals and businesses who have purchased a new Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV).

To be eligible for a $3,000 rebate you must:

- have purchased a new eligible ZEV up to a dutiable value of $68,000 (including GST) on or after 21 April 2023; or

- have purchased a new eligible ZEV up to the original dutiable value of $58,000 (including GST) between 16 March 2022 and 20 April 2023

To be eligible for a $6,000 rebate you must:

- have purchased a new eligible ZEV up to the dutiable value of $68,000 (including GST) on or after 21 April 2023 and have a total household taxable income equal to or less than $180,000 per annum; or

- have purchased a new eligible ZEV up to the dutiable value of $58,000 (including GST) between 16 March 2022 and 20 April 2023 and have a total household taxable income equal to or less than $180,000 per annum.


Discounted Registration

- Battery electric vehicles (BEV) have the lowest level of registration in Queensland.

- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles also have a registration duty rate of 2% compared to 4-cylinder vehicles which have a registration duty rate of 3%.

New South Wales
Stamp Duty Exemption

Under the NSW Government's efforts to alleviate upfront costs for electric vehicles (EVs), purchasers of eligible new or used battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell electric light vehicles, with a dutiable value of up to $78,000, will enjoy a stamp duty exemption. This measure will result in a potential refund of up to $3,000 for EV buyers.

Note: The stamp duty exemption and the rebate for all eligible EV purchases will end on the 1st January 2024.

Northern Territory
Stamp Duty Concession

Eligible BEV's and PHEV's can enjoy a stamp duty concession of up to $1,500 for vehicles valued up to $50,000.


Registration

Registration for new and existing Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) is now free, including previously registered vehicles, interstate transfers, as well as imported or modified PEVs.

South Australia
$3,000 Subsidy

For eligible battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles first registered from 28 October 2021, the government is providing a $3,000 subsidy to encourage the increase of EVs

Registration

Similarly, for eligible battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles first registered from 28 October 2021, the government is providing a 3-year registration fee exemption for vehicles valued up to $68,750.

Western Australia
$3,500 Rebate

As part of the Zero Emission Vehicle Rebate Scheme, a $3,500 rebate will be provided after purchasing your eligible EV. The vehicle must be brand new and have a dutiable value of $70,000 or less.

Tasmania
Currently, there are no active incentives or rebates for Tasmania, however there are incentives that are confirmed to be on the horizon.
